Inspiration/Research Boards
For your Project you will create TWO inspiration/mood boards.
Your first board will be a a large board you may create on Pinterest or a google Doc. See Step 1 below for directions.
Your second board will show a focused and narrowed down board of your ideas for the project. See steps 2 through 5 below.
- Create a Pinterest Board: Once you have finalized your Project topic, create a Pinterest Board and begin pinning images that inspire you. Pin at least 5 photos, 5 artworks, 5 textures, 5 patterns, 5 fonts, 5 images of text that apply to your topic, and 2 color palettes. Pin even more images that inspire you. Take a screen shot of your Pinterest Board. You will turn this in along with your finalized Inspiration Board.
How to take a screen shot on PC: Fn + Print Screen (copy). Open a document in Photoshop or Word. Control + V to paste. - Narrow Down the Images: Review the images you pinned and look for trends and recurring patterns in subject matter and color. Keep your favorite images and the images that create a cohesive mood. You should have 4-5 main images, 2 examples of fonts, 2 examples of text, 1-2 patterns, 1-2 textures.
- Develop a Color Palette: From the images you have selected, develop a color palette. Pull colors from the images in Photoshop with the eyedropper tool or create a palette online with kuler.com or another source.
- Create your Inspiration/Mood Board in Photoshop: Use a mood board template from below or create your own template. 8x10” or 11x14”. Begin adding your inspirational images in a visually pleasing way paying attention to VISUAL HIERARCHY. The most important images should be larger and the supplemental images smaller.
- Label and Explain Each Image: Under each image write a brief description of why this image relates to your project topic and how it could be used to inspire your artworks or photographs. Use a consistent font that contributes to the overall mood and theme of your project topic - maybe one you pinned on your board!
Your Final Inspiration/Mood Board must Include:
