Inspiration Research Boards
For your Project you will create 2 inspiration boards: 1 Large and 1 Small and focused.
You will turn in TWO BOARDS.
The Inspiration Board Process:
LARGE BOARD
Create a Pinterest Board or Google Doc: Once you have finalized your Project topic, create a Pinterest Board or Google Doc and begin pinning images that inspire you.
Pin at least:
5 photos
5 artworks
5 textures
5 patterns
5 fonts (Optional)
2 quotes that apply to your topic (quotes, song lyrics, passage from a book or story, etc.)
2 color palettes.
Pin even more images that inspire you.
Take a screen shot of your Pinterest Board. You will turn this in as a jpeg.
How to take a screen shot on PC:
First zoom out (control + minus sign)
Press the keys on the keyboard Fn + Print Screen (copy).
Open a document in Photoshop. 10 inches for the width, 8 inches for the height. 150 ppi
Then Control + V to paste the screen shot
SMALL BOARD:
Narrow Down the Images from the large board: Review the images you pinned on your Large Board and look for trends and recurring patterns in subject matter and color. Choose your favorite images and the images that create a cohesive mood.
- Create your Small Inspiration Board in Photoshop: Use a board template from below. 8x10” or 11x14”. Begin adding your inspirational images in a visually pleasing way paying attention to VISUAL HIERARCHY. The most important images should be larger and the supplemental images smaller. Your Small Board Inspiration Board will Include your favorite images from your Large Board:
- 4-5 main images (maybe more)
- 2 examples of fonts -Optional - for artworks that include text
- 2 examples of quotes(written words that contribute to your topic: poem, quote, song lyrics, proverb, etc. This may be typed or handwritten)
- 1-2 patterns
- 1-2 textures
- a color palette

8. Label and Explain Each Image: Under each image write a brief description of why this image relates to your project topic and how it could be used to inspire your artworks or photographs. Use a consistent font that contributes to the overall mood and theme of your project topic - maybe one you pinned on your board!

TIPS:
- write your brief written descriptions under each image
- Demonstrate Visual Hierarchy
- Show cohesion and a unified idea
- Find images online but also TAKE YOUR OWN PHOTOS to include
- Find inspiration from multiple places/sources: Pinterest , Behance, Illustrationweb, creativebloq.com, smashingmagazine.com, creativemarket.com, tumblr, dribble.com, National Geographic, thisiscolossal.com, and stock photo sites.
